60th annual Waterama

60 years of Waterama on beautiful Lake Minnewaska in sunny Glenwood!

We’d like to invite everyone to join the festivities this upcoming week of July 21^st through the 26^th! Waterama is truly a unique getaway with days of fun-packed activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Activities kick off with the Medallion Hunt and Memorabilia Exhibit on Tuesday, the 21^st, with much more to do throughout the week: street dances, 3 different parades, tractor pulls, sand sculpture contest, races, water ski show, prize giveaways, car and cycle show, crafts, and much more!

Bring your appetite, as vendors will be set up throughout the town with great food fit for any palate! We at Marthaler Chevrolet will be handing out free ice cream treats to cool you down on Thursday, July 23^rd and Friday, July 24^th downtown at Glenwood Collision Center.

Feast your eyes on the Midwest’s only lighted pontoon and boat parade. While the night lights up with a fireworks display over Lake Minnewaska, you can watch a parade of illuminated pontoons and boats show off their own colors not far from shore, starting at City Beach. The action starts at 9:15 pm on Saturday, July 25^th.

Waterama Coronation and Grande Day Parade wrap up the 60^th anniversary event on Sunday the 26^th. We hope to see you there!!!

Tires and tread depth

When the tread is getting low, where do you go? Have you checked out Marthaler Chevrolet of Glenwood’s tire finder? What a cool tool!!!

We make it easy to get your new set of rubber. Search tires by your make, model, and rim size. Or search tires by your TPC code.

Our tire finder tool will instantly load dozens of choices meant for your vehicle. You’ll have a price for tires and be able to order your tires if we don’t already have them in stock. Marthaler Chevrolet of Glenwood is out to save you time AND money. Right now we have tire price match. Whether  you are in the market for Corvette tires, aggressive tires for your 4x4, snow tires, and more; Marthaler has the lakes area and Alexandria tire price leaders and tire availability. 

How do you check the tread on your current tires? You don’t need any fancy gadgets… grab some pocket change and give this a try:

For safety’s sake, let’s hope your tire tread is better than 2/32nds. This is the point where hydroplaning can affect you. To check if your tire is at 2/32nds, get a penny out. Position the penny so that Abe Lincoln’s head is facing down and set the penny in the grooves between treads. If the tread falls short of reaching the tip of Abe’s head, you had better get some new tires!

Start shopping for tires when they’re at 4/32nds. You will get a good idea on prices and what to expect with the different choices out there. To see if your tire is at 4/32nds, get a quarter out. Position the quarter so that George Washington’s head is facing downward in the grooves between the tread.  If the tread reaches the tip of George’s head, you’re at 4/32nds.

No worries if your tires are at 6/32nds or better. You’ll need a penny again for checking this one. Get your penny out and position it upside down and facing backwards, so that you are looking at the Lincoln memorial (upside down, though!) Set the penny in the groove between the treads and check where the tread reaches up to. Is the tread past the top of the upside down Lincoln memorial? If so, you are at 6/32nds or better.  Keep on riding!
