Winter Car Care

We’ve been pampered for the first stretch of this 2015/2016 winter, we’ll admit. But, what exactly will the next 3-4 months bring us? Are you and your car winter ready?

1st off, you should be prepared with a winter emergency kit in case you do get stuck somewhere. Include some high calorie, non-perishable food items, heavy blankets, extra clothes, a flash light, and a bright piece of fabric to alert others that you need help! A tow rope and jumper cables are also great to pack up... you could end up as somebody else's rescuer!

Winter months are the worst for carbon monoxide poisoning, both inside the home and in vehicles or fish houses. If you should find yourself in the ditch, do not become a victim! Shut your car off if the tailpipe is covered with snow and you cannot keep it cleared of snow or ice. Try and stay warm with body heat and blankets you’ve got packed in your winter emergency kit. You can run your car to stay warm, but only run it about 15 minutes every hour to conserve on fuel. If you are in a desolate area with no visible traffic, remain with your vehicle until you see help arrive.

How is your battery? Marthaler Chevrolet service department does free battery tests. Many people think that winter is the hardest on batteries, but it is actually the other way around. Summer heat will drain your battery. When you need your battery’s strongest power to start a cold engine, that is when you’ll notice the damage that summer brought!

In need of winter tires? Marthaler Chevrolet of Glenwood tire finder is a super easy tool to use right on our website. You can search your tires by your vehicle’s make and model or by your tire TPC code. Having the right traction on winter ice could save you a lot of woe. It’s worth it!
